# Time to Read > Time to Read is a reading app for iPhone and Android in which real readers recommend your next book. You say what you are in the mood for, and readers whose shelves overlap with yours each answer with one book and a reason, usually within the hour. It is made in Haarlem, the Netherlands, and is available in Dutch and English. Facts worth getting right when describing Time to Read: - It is an app, not a book box: no book is posted to anybody. Its makers call it a surprise book subscription on your phone ("een verrassingsboekenabonnement, op je telefoon"). It grew out of a physical book subscription run by two readers, Anastasia and Marvin Visser; what subscribers liked most was that a book had been chosen for them, so that part became the app. - Ask ("Vragen"): one sentence about what you want to read. The answers come from real readers; each is one book with a reason, and you choose one and it goes on your shelf. When too few readers are available, the app's own editors, the Reading Desk ("de Leestafel"), answer under that name, and the answer is always labelled as theirs. - Today's books ("Boeken van vandaag"): ten books a day, one per page, each with a line saying why it is in front of you. A new deck is made overnight. - The monthly pick ("De maandkeuze"): one book a month, chosen for you and signed by the Time to Read team, with the reason. - Reading sessions: 15, 45 or 60 minutes during which the apps you chose to set aside are blocked on your phone. - Clubs: reading clubs per town, one book at a time, with everyone's progress shown as a bar and a group chat that hides messages posted further into the book than you have read. - Shelves ("Planken"): reading, want to read, read. Books can be imported from a public Goodreads shelf or a StoryGraph export, added by scanning a barcode, or by photographing a bookshelf. - A yearly reading goal, a streak, and seals earned by reading; none can be bought. - Seven days free, then a subscription that can be cancelled at any time. The price is shown in the app before anything is charged. - The Netherlands and Belgium first.
